Westly vs. Angelides

The race between two democratic candidates for the nomination for governor seems to be deadlocked. The two are trying to get the Democratic nomination and go on to challenge Arnold Schwarzenegger. Steve Westly is counting on his credentials as a teacher to see him through. Phil Angelides says he will increase taxes for the big corporations and the rich. Westly, on the other hand, believes that "raising taxes is a last resort."

On issues like the environment, education, immigration, there is little difference between the candidates. The main issue that separates the two is the economy. As a socialist, I believe in fair taxation. Corporate loopholes should be sealed and rich individuals and big corporations should be made to pay their fair share. No matter what Westly says, regular workers will not be affected by this tax plan. Californian economy is recovering and this tax plan will hopefully take a big chunk out of the deficit.

All in all, I support State Treasurer Phil Angelides in the Democratic gubernatorial primary, and if he wins the primary, I will support his candidacy for governor.
